INTRODUCTION TO BLACKBOARD

Introduction to Blackboard will cover the basics of setting up a course in Blackboard. Topics to be covered include: The Blackboard interface, creating course structure by using folders & modules, creating/uploading a syllabus, creating using a course calendar, uploading lecture notes, creating assignments, and using the temporary patron to test the course.

INTRODUCTION TO ELLUMINATE

This class will introduce Elluminate! Live a web conferencing program that allows real-time interaction with students singly and in a group. Topics include: creating an Elluminate session, creating a link to the Elluminate session in a Blackboard content area, the Elluminate interface, audio and video options, recording the session, and application sharing.

CREATING AND USING SAFEASSIGNMENTS

You can use SafeAssignments as a tool for finding plagiarism in student papers. This session will cover creating safeassignments, student submissions, and interpreting the report.

COURSE PACKS

Many publishers provide course packs to use in conjuction with a textbook. This workshop will provide hints on uploading these course packs into Blackboard and troubleshooting problems.

DISCUSSION FORUMS

Discussion forums provide an avenue for discussion of concepts and ideas. This workshop will cover setting up a forum – both graded and ungraded, adding threads to the discussion, and monitoring student participation.

GRADE CENTER

This workshop will examine the grade center. It will cover adding/editing columns, adding/editing grades, sorting, managing the grading center, and creating weighted grades.

COPYING AND ARCHIVING COURSES

If you are teaching a course again, you can copy the course structure into a new course so you don’t have to recreate it from scratch. This course will show you how it’s done.

TESTS AND SURVEYS

This workshop will cover the difference between tests and surveys, the kinds of questions available, creating a totally new test, as well as recycling questions from an old test.

PANOPTO VIDEO CAPTURE

Panopto allows you to tape a lecture or presentation and prepare it for online delivery. This workshop will cover the basics of the software and how to prepare to give a lecture.
